Bespoak Furniture & Joinery

Bespoak Furniture & Joinery are a small business based in the heart of Devon. They specialise in bespoke handcrafted furniture and purpose-made joinery, using a combination of traditional techniques alongside modern-day methods to produce classic and contemporary furniture and cabinetry, from console tables and bedside cabinets, to built-in wardrobes and fully installed kitchens.

Bespoak makes all of their handcrafted furniture and custom made joinery from kiln-dried FSC certified timbers, and where possible, woods, such as English oak, walnut and yew, are handpicked from local sources.

Project Brief

Tim from Bespoak contacted me in early 2013 to design a logo and brand identity for his newly established business. While Tim had a name for the company – Bespoak – he didn’t have anything else a business needs when starting out, such as a logo, company stationery and a website. The brief was pretty open, Tim wanted a logo that hinted towards what he did but other than that he was open to my ideas. Once we had a logo, the next stage was to design and build a website to showcase projects and provide information about services.

The Solution

I initially designed three logos to present to Bespoak. These initial designs allowed me to understand the client’s design preferences. There was a small amount of tweaking of the chosen design to get it looking perfect, then once the final logo had been approved, I offered a few colour options for the client to choose from. The final logo mark is a bold yet classic logo that feels established and dependable, qualities that are extremely important for a new business.

With the brand identity approved, I designed Bespoak a set of stationery items, consisting of a letterhead, compliments slip, business card and invoice templates. The next task was the website, the client understood the importance of keeping a website regularly maintained and updated and as a result, they were keen to use WordPress as the basis for their custom site. I designed an attractive and minimalist responsive website design, working closely with the client at every stage to ensure that we were both achieving the desired outcome. Working with a web developer, we developed a custom WordPress template that included links to social media pages, an image gallery, a Google map, an online contact form and downloadable guarantee and product care and maintenance PDFs. I’m really pleased with how the website turned out, and it has received plenty of positive feedback from the client’s customers.

I still work with Bespoak and have since designed advertisements, promotional flyers, branded work clothing, vehicle livery and social media posts.
